This is the third showing of Wabi-Sabi of the Sleeping Beauties and a Taranaki first. By lucky coincidence and through Kina’s initiation the unique opportunity arose to be able to curate and present once more a coherent exhibition from this body of work by Daniel Kirsch.
Situated in the older part of New Plymouth city Kina Gallery was established in 1999. It occupies the street level of the distinctive 1894 Exchange Chambers building (just around the corner from the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery). Among others, several key pieces will be present in this show like the Bedford Door Blue, the White Car 4 panel print and one print on metal of the Yellow Car.
TJ McNamara describes this work in the NZ Herald as “something especially New Zealand. One of the works must surely become iconic. It is a yellow car inexplicably swamped deep in the green of the thick bush.”
Location Kina Gallery is at 101 Devon St West, New Plymouth
